Oh, The Software! Calgon, Take Me Away!

I can’t tell you how many shops I’ve worked with have far too many software tools being misused, not used to their full potential or just redundant. (I can’t tell you how many because I’m not great at math.)

Anyways…When I chat with folks, we usually start with me asking what they do, why they do it and what software they use.  Per the aforementioned, I discover they have a SH#T TON of semi used or unused software.

A lot of it strolls in the door when people find a cool app they like and try to convince everyone else how great it is and say everyone should use it.  That usually works on 2 people, then the rest don’t care and use what they already use, which is email and whatever texting thing they're used to.  So, we’re starting off with redundant tools…Bro, that’s BOGAS.  

Information management 101, lesson 4b  - Use the bare minimum of software.

Since I assume most people do not want to chase information around all day, I suggest they trim the fat.  Use only the software that is agreed on…so, we all have to sit around bitching for a while to agree on it.  Once we do, everyone hugs and the sun comes out from behind the clouds.
